Hey Arthur,
Since I didn’t win the contest in the comment above yours, I have plenty of time to reply.
I hope everything is as awesome as it always has been in your life of climbing. Hard.
Are you in China right now? (without gear!? you travel for reasons besides climbing!?)
Yeah, it’s easy to acquire gear in Yangshuo. It isn’t always a level that I would deem acceptable for safe climbing, but there is perfectly fine gear around (including awesome fake Arc’teryx jackets, Mammut pants, and even, if you’re lucky, BD cams!).
There are a handful of climbing shops, mostly concentrated on a street perpendicular to West Street (the main tourist drag). You won’t miss them. Additionally, a number of the 5-10 guiding shops in town have gear for rent/purchase. I can hook you up with the names of some friends there that, I’m sure, would be happy to climb with you, probably have extra gear, and–in fact–a few of them even have my rope that I left there!
You’re going to love Yangshuo. Especially since it’s your style of climbing. Hard.

ahh! sick! i’m so psyched. i haven’t climbed for 5 months! (and it will be 6). yes the travel has been for learning yoga, and i suppose just opening myself up to other worlds, which is difficult when obsessed with climbing. and one lesson i’ve learned is that climbing is very very good for me.
yes, please do help me connect with the people in yangshuo. i think you are getting my email address, and i don’t want to post it on the internet, so shoot me an email!

Where are you?
I’d say that climbing doesn’t make it harder, but EASIER to “open yourself to other worlds.” in fact, I think it’s the perfect reason and method to do so.
Shoot me an email with any more questions that you have and I’ll get right back to you. Enjoy!
