JXN-WNDS BIKEPACKING
July 2020

We didn’t realize it was July 4th weekend at one of America’s most crowded outdoors tourist towns but we craved a few days of difficult physical activity.

It was 2020. It was the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. I hadn’t experienced a proper adventure in so long, instead locking myself indoors for self-isolation during quarantine.

So Robin Hill and I—for about the millionth time—met up for an adventure. We didn’t know if the route I mapped was going to be dirt roads or deer trails, but we decided to ride bikes, generally, from the Tetons to the Wind Rivers and back, mostly “off road.” Little did we know that we’d also be mostly pushing bikes, and doing it “off trail.”
Oh yeah, and my chain broke SIX TIMES and made it so I could not ride up hills. At all. Which was a problem, considering how remote we were for so much of these three days.
At least it didn’t rain.
Oh wait.

And at least the the mosquitos weren’t bad.
Oh wait.
