This ended up a full-blown vacation.

The government didn’t grant me mountain permits.

My original plan was to climb and ski Ecuadorian volcanoes for a week and then head to the Galapagos with family. Unfortunately, government offices failed to allow me access to the mountains. That meant I flew to Ecuador with not more than a swimsuit, a lonely ski bag still sitting at home.

All I will say about my vacation is that I absolutely can not overstate how strange it is to around wildlife that isn’t scared of humans. It’s one of the wildest natural experiences I’ve had.
