Glacier camping, midnight polar bear watch shifts, 40 degrees below 0, and the only full solar eclipse to be visible from snowy mountains for 25+ years .
Salomon Freeski TV invited me to Spitzbergen, Svalbard. We rode snowmobiles with thousands of pounds of equipment, established a base camp, and climbed and skied untouched mountains. Polar bears kept an eye on us.
But my favorite part was standing on a windy ridge at 11am alongside my friends Cody Townsend and Chris Rubens, wearing those funny 3D glasses made for staring at the sun, and watching the moon pass perfectly in front of it.
Skis on our feet, we did what we know best: skied beneath a full solar eclipse.
