Minnesota Tourism with Dad
February 2024
It’s Take-Your-Dad-To-Work-Day!
When the Minnesota Office of Tourism suggested a mid-winter trip somewhere without steep skiing or ski mountaineering, instead focusing on fat biking and nordic skiing, I thought: I should bring my dad. But then, it didn’t snow.
Luckily, my dad is down and able to do absolutely anything outside. Even at age 74.
My dad ice climbed for his first time (great success), fat biked for his first time (success), and tried skate skiing (major failure).
Climbing ice came surprisingly easy to him, and I had a great time learning about the area from a local guide.
I’d never skate skied before and enjoyed the process of figuring that out, too. We even went to the famous Loppet Center to nordic ski only a few days after the big World Cup held there.
We ate at the locals’ favorites restaurants (including a VERY fancy one, wowww), sweated in a very cool sauna on the banks of Lake Superior, checked out local ski shops, and rode fat bikes right onto a “frozen” lake.
